Reverend Doctor Alfonza W. Fullwood
Alfonza W. Fullwood, a native of Bolivia,
North Carolina, is both a pastor and professor of preaching. He
earned his Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Divinity degrees from
Shaw University and Shaw Divinity School, respectively. Pastor Fullwood
has received his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Southeastern Baptist
Theological Seminary, and is currently completing his Ph.D. degree
in Homiletics (Preaching), also at Southeastern Seminary.
He is an adjunct professor at Shaw University and
at Apex School of Theology, where he teaches Preaching, Theology,
Bible, Forms of Worship, African American Religion, Hermeneutics
and Ministerial Ethics. With over twenty-six years of pastoral ministry,
he has served eighteen of those years with Riley Hill Baptist Church.
Fullwood believes that every sermon should teach
a biblical principle, having application and relevance in tune with
the socio-cultural context of the pew. He combines the African American
Preaching tradition with the Expository method, producing a style
that explains the meaning and message of
the preaching-text while stirring the emotions of the pew under
the superintendence of the Holy Spirit.
Dr. Fullwood is the recipient of numerous awards,
including community service awards, and Minister of the Year. He
is a lecturer, trainer and facilitator. He conducts preaching clinics,
ministry-related workshops and biblical teaching sessions on social
and theological issues facing the church.
Fullwood's other areas of experience include: Institutional
Resource Development, Management Training and Employment Law, Public
Personnel Policy, and ten years
as a Human Resource professional in NC state government. He is a
member of the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) of Wake County;
he is a Housing Authority Commissioner of Wake County, and a former
member of
the Board of Directors of First Citizens Bank of Wendell.
An avid writer, runner, and basketball player, he
is married to Marlene Parker Fullwood, and they have three adult
children: Kendra, Ebony, and Cedric.
